Ultra rare 8 ½ foot bed makes the Custom Campers a very desirable truck. This is a custom build that you get to choose the design prior to assembly. Select 2WD or 4WD, ¾ or 1Ton suspension, you will choose your own exterior color, interior color , engine and select wheel size and type. Cost will be determined depending on your selections.
It is like ordering a new 1972 Truck to your specifications.
The truck will be fabricated by Ron a career mechanic, welder, fabricator with over 40 years experience at his private shop in Pennsylvania. And painted by Matt also in Pennsylvania. Delivery options are available or you can pickup the truck once complete.
This is the actual truck as it sat in the early 2000’s it has since been disassembled and placed in storage.
Drive train:
Small block Chevy, Big Block Chevy, LSx motor, or even a diesel. Auto transmission or standard shift. If you have a drive train you already own or wish to purchase we can install it for you.
Suspension:
Originally the truck is a 1 ton C30 2 wheel drive, which it can remain or since all new suspension components will be installed you can select ¾ ton C20 2 wheel drive. The truck can be converted to a 4 wheel drive in ¾ ton or 1 ton. The suspension can be lifted or lowered to your liking.
Interior:
Choose your desired color of bench seat or bucket seats and a center console, cloth or leather, Full gauge package dash, and stereo options. This is a factory Air Conditioned truck, the AC will be restored as part of the build.
Exterior:
The best part is you can select the body color you want. Either a solid color or 2 tone. Select a classic color scheme like yellow or orange with white accent. See the example pictures for ideas or present your own color choice. Side trim is also your choice upper and lower trim, lower only, or smoothed. Wheels and tires you can choose wheel type and tire size. Matt has extensive wood working skills and the bed floor can be customized with your choice of hardwood.
Terms of sale:
You will work closely with Ron and Matt to determine your custom package and a total build cost will be agreed upon depending on the options selected. Minimum cost to restore the truck to stock condition is estimated at 18,000 plus the truck value of 10,00 depending on your customization the cost increases. A basic restored to stock truck is valued at $28,000
Once an agreed amount is determined a down payment of 30 percent of the total build cost is required to begin the build process. Once the fabrication is complete and before the drive train is installed a second payment of 20 percent will be required. Before the truck goes into paint another 30 percent will be required. At competition the balance of 20 percent will be due to take ownership of the truck.
Take a good look at this Chevy truck’s bed, if you can: six inches from the front of the bed, there’s a seam. That’s where the extra inches were welded on to make a Longhorn, America’s only 8 1/2 foot long production pickup. Why bother with six extra inches? Weight distribution, for the ever larger slide-in campers that were all the rage back then. The C30 Longhorn could take a twelve foot camper, without the horrendous sway that was so common to see back then, with folks trying to haul camper and big families in their half-ton trucks. How many vacations turned (over) into nightmares?
